FERRATUS PRIVACY POLICY
FERRATUS PRIVACY POLICY
Last updated: October 28, 2026
Ferratus is made by Ferratus LLC. This policy explains what the Ferratus app for iPhone does with your information. It is short, because the app does very little with it.
THE SHORT VERSION
Ferratus keeps your data on your iPhone. There are no accounts, and we never receive your profile, workouts, meals, or photos. To look up foods and show exercise pictures, the app contacts a few outside services, and it sends them only the item being looked up. The only time anything is sent to us is when you choose to send a bug report. There is no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking of any kind.
WHAT IS STORED ON YOUR DEVICE
Everything you enter into Ferratus is saved in the app’s storage on your iPhone:
- Your profile: name, age, sex, height, weight, activity level, experience level, training goal, and your unit and language preferences
- Your goals and targets: calorie and macronutrient targets, your weight goal, your body-weight entries, and any special nutrition condition you choose (such as pregnancy or diabetes)
- Your food logs, recipes, saved meals, and meal plans
- The products you have scanned. Each one is remembered with its full details (name, brand, nutrition, ingredients, and allergens), so scanning it again is instant and needs no internet lookup. You can remove a product from the list at any time.
- Your workouts: the workouts you build, your schedule, your workout history (which is also where your personal records come from), and the notes you add to exercises
- Any injuries or physical limitations you choose to record, including your notes about them
- A workout in progress, so you can pick it up again if the app closes
- Your progress photos and videos, and your profile picture
- Your settings, such as the rest timer, your gym equipment, and your Home screen layout
Progress photos, videos, and your profile picture are kept in the app’s permanent storage. iOS does not delete them to free up space.
This stays on your device. It is not uploaded to us or shared with anyone, except anything you choose to include in a bug report (see Bug reports below).
Ferratus does not add its own encryption to this data. It is protected by your iPhone’s own security: your passcode, Face ID or Touch ID, and the app sandbox. Anyone who can unlock your phone can open the app and see it.
Food log entries older than 12 months are deleted automatically when you open the app, as long as you are still logging food. As a safety measure, the app skips this when something looks wrong, for example if your phone’s date is off or it would remove most of your log at once. Everything else stays until you delete it.
BACKUPS
If your iPhone is backed up to iCloud or to a computer, your Ferratus data is included in that backup. This covers everything listed above, including your progress photos, videos, and profile picture.
Those backups are made by iOS and kept in your own iCloud account or on your own computer. Ferratus never receives them. They are governed by Apple’s terms, not ours.
Temporary files are not backed up. These include exercise pictures, which the app can download again, and the screenshot made while you prepare a bug report, which is deleted when the report is sent or closed.
Deleting your data in the app, or deleting the app, does not remove copies already in your backups. Restoring an earlier backup brings that data back.
WHEN THE APP CONNECTS TO THE INTERNET
Ferratus contacts three outside services to look things up. Only the item being looked up is sent. Your name, age, weight, goals, injuries, photos, and location are never sent to them.
USDA FoodData Central (api.nal.usda.gov)
Operated by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. It receives the words you type into a food search, the barcode numbers you scan, and the names of recipe ingredients that are not in the app’s built-in list. When you pick a USDA food, it also receives that food’s USDA reference number, so the app can fetch its serving sizes and nutrients.
Open Food Facts (world.openfoodfacts.org)
An open, community-run product database. It receives the barcode numbers you scan.
GitHub (raw.githubusercontent.com)
When you open an exercise’s details, its demonstration pictures are downloaded from a public repository. GitHub can see which pictures were requested.
A product you have scanned before is found on your phone first, with no internet lookup.
These services receive your IP address, which is an unavoidable part of any internet request, and each keeps its own logs under its own privacy policy. Ferratus does not send them any identifier for you or your device.
The only other connection the app makes is to send a bug report, and only when you send one.
BUG REPORTS
You can report a problem with the bug button or with “Report a problem” in Profile. Nothing is sent unless you choose to send it.
When you start a report, the app takes a picture of the screen you are on. Progress photos, your profile picture, and your name are blacked out before the picture is taken. If the app cannot be sure they are hidden, it leaves the screenshot out. You then see the whole report. Nothing is sent until you have reviewed it, ticked the consent box, and tapped Send.
A report contains:
- Your description, if you write one
- The screenshot, with photos and your name blacked out. It is optional, and you can remove it before sending.
- The app version and the iOS version
- The type of device (for example, iPhone)
- The name of the screen you were on
- A reference code, which is shown to you after sending
The screenshot can still show anything else that was on the screen at the time, such as your weight, the food you have logged, or notes about an injury. Please check it before sending.
Reports go to Ferratus LLC and are stored with our service provider, Supabase. They are used only to fix problems in the app and are deleted after 12 months. Like any website, the server also sees your IP address.
“Delete all my data” cannot remove a report you have already sent. To have a report deleted sooner, email support@ferratuslabs.com with its reference code. If you do not have the code, tell us the date you sent it and what it said.
If a report cannot be sent, the app offers to open your email app with your description and reference code filled in. No screenshot is attached, and nothing is sent until you send that email yourself.
WHAT WE DO NOT DO
- No user accounts and no login
- No analytics or usage tracking
- No advertising and no advertising identifiers
- No crash reporting built into the app. If you have turned on Apple’s “Share With App Developers” setting, Apple may share crash reports and other diagnostic data with us. Apple controls that setting, not the app. If you test Ferratus through Apple’s TestFlight, Apple shares crash reports and any feedback you send through TestFlight with us, under Apple’s terms.
- No location data. The app never asks for location permission.
- No microphone. The app never asks for microphone permission.
- No selling or sharing of your data with anyone
PERMISSIONS
Camera: used to scan product barcodes and to take progress photos you choose to add. It is requested only when you first use one of these features. Ferratus does not photograph or analyze your meals.
Photo library: used only when you choose a profile picture or add progress photos or videos from your library.
Notifications: used only for the rest alert, which plays a sound when your rest between sets ends while the app is closed. The app explains this and asks only after you tap Allow. The alert is set up on your phone. No server is involved, and nothing is sent.
Live Activities: during a workout, your Lock Screen and Dynamic Island show the workout timer, the rest countdown, and the next exercise. This is created on your phone, and nothing is sent. Anyone who can see your Lock Screen can see it. You can turn Live Activities off in your iPhone’s Settings.
All of these are optional. Declining any of them limits only the related feature.
DELETING YOUR DATA
Because everything is on your device, you control all of it.
In the app: on the Home screen, tap your picture at the top to open Profile, scroll to the bottom, and tap “Delete all my data”. After you confirm, this removes everything Ferratus has stored on your phone: your profile, goals, food logs, recipes, saved meals, scanned products, workouts, history, notes, schedule, injuries, any workout in progress, settings, progress photos and videos, and your profile picture. It cannot be undone.
Deleting the app from your iPhone also removes all of it.
You can also remove single items, such as a scanned product or a progress photo, where they appear in the app.
None of these removes copies already in your iPhone backups (see Backups) or bug reports you have already sent (see Bug reports).
We cannot delete the data on your phone for you, because we never have it.
AGE
Ferratus is intended for adults aged 18 and over. The app asks for your age when you set it up and cannot be set up by anyone who enters an age under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe someone under 18 has sent us a bug report, email us and we will delete it.
HEALTH AND MEDICAL DISCLAIMER
Ferratus provides general fitness and nutrition information. It is not medical advice, it is not a medical device, and it is not a substitute for a qualified professional. Calorie and macronutrient figures are estimates produced by published formulas. Nutrition targets for conditions such as pregnancy or diabetes are general reference values, not a treatment plan. Exercise suggestions, including any that take account of an injury you have recorded, are suggestions only. Consult a doctor before beginning any exercise or nutrition program, and particularly before exercising with an injury or medical condition.
DATA SOURCES
Nutrition data from USDA FoodData Central, a public domain dataset published by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Product data from Open Food Facts, made available under the Open Database License (ODbL).

CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top. If a change affects what the app does with your data, the privacy text inside the app will be updated too.
